10 styles

Types

Solid vs engineered, prefinished vs site-finished.

Solid hardwood

3/4” thick, nail-down, sandable and refinishable multiple times over its life. Traditional choice above grade. 50–100+ year lifespan.

Engineered hardwood

Real wood veneer over plywood core. More dimensionally stable — can install over concrete slabs, basements, or with radiant heat. Refinishable 1–2 times depending on wear layer.

Prefinished

Factory-finished planks with aluminum-oxide coatings. Faster install (no sanding/finishing on site), harder factory finish, cleaner air during install.

Site-finished

Raw wood installed, then sanded and finished in your home. Seamless look, custom stain colors possible. Longer install, dust and fumes.

Species

The five we install most.

Red Oak

Classic Midwestern hardwood. Warm tones, prominent grain, takes stain beautifully, hardest-working wood for the price.

White Oak

Straighter grain, cooler undertones, takes modern gray and whitewashed finishes better than red oak. Slightly harder.

Maple

Tight, uniform grain with subtle variation. Contemporary look. Harder than oak but takes stain less evenly.

Hickory

Dramatic color variation plank-to-plank, lots of character, hardest domestic species. Great for rustic or lodge looks.

Walnut

Rich chocolate tones, softer than oak, striking in formal rooms and studies. Premium price point.
